What is TrustRank

TrustRank is a technique of manually selecting a subset of linked pages for evaluation to separate reputable, trustworthy pages from spam pages and link schemes.

Crawling from these trusted pages outward enables "neighborhoods" deemed to be similarly reliable trusted pages.

The further the crawl extends outward from the subset the less reliable the results.

Over 100 factors are utilized to rank webpages, some of which are considered secret and as such are not made public.

Google trademarked the phrase TrustRank in April 2005.
